Terlago

Terlago and the valley of the lakes

Terlago can be considered a small jewel of Trentino Alto Adige.

The inhabited center of Terlago can boast an optimal position. In fact, it is located in the immediate vicinity of the city of Trento and in its surroundings there is certainly no shortage of attractions and opportunities for recreation, including mountain paths along which to go for walks by bike or on foot and streams or lakes where you can relax lying in the sun. First of all there is the beautiful Lake of Lamar, right near Monte Terlago.

Terlago, in the province of Trento, is a municipality with just under 2000 inhabitants.
The presence of numerous lakes in its immediate vicinity, the Lamar Lakes, makes this town a particularly popular tourist destination, especially in the summer season. At about 500 meters above sea level, for example, there is the lake of Terlago, perfectly equipped to welcome vacationers. Bathing is in fact allowed on its banks and it is also possible to stay in a camping site. The summer season is undoubtedly the busiest time, but even during the winter the landscape is truly enchanting. Other well-known lakes are those of Lamar and Cavedine. The first, surrounded by Paganella and Monte Soprasasso, is a basin that still maintains its natural characteristics. Lake Cavedine, in turn located between the Casale and Brento mountains, is in turn interesting above all for lovers of windsurfing, a sport that can be practiced here thanks to the winds that blow regularly.
From the historical and artistic point of view, Terlago presents various testimonies dating back to the medieval period. Worthy of note is, for example, the Castle of the Counts of Terlago, now owned by the Pallavicino family, which served as an outpost for the control of military movements that took place in the streets below. It was built at 1500 meters above the sea level and, as you can easily imagine, from that height you can enjoy a beautiful panorama. The same can be said of the Tower of Braidone, also built in medieval times and perfectly preserved to this day.
In the historic center of Terlago, time seems to have stopped. Walking through the ancient alleys you wander among characteristic houses that bring you back to past years. There are also several stately homes. In fact, several noble families had their residences here, such as the Cesarini, the Sforza, the Altempurgher, the Tabarelli De Fatis.
If you are looking for original ideas for excursions near Terlago, an excellent idea could be to head towards the S. Antonio pass, which is located at an altitude of almost 2000 meters. The walk, recommended only for hiking experts, is quite complex and involves a route along high mountain paths that cross the woods.
